Guide
Wagering Requirements Explained
How playthrough rules work, how to calculate them, and what the casinos we review actually require.
What a wagering requirement means
A wagering requirement counts bets, not losses. Every eligible bet adds its stake to the running total, whether the spin wins or loses, until the total reaches the required amount. Until then, the bonus balance and the winnings attached to it stay locked, and most terms remove both if the player withdraws early or the time limit runs out.
The requirement is the casino’s price for the bonus. A larger match looks generous, but the multiple, the base it applies to and the rules around it decide how much betting the bonus really demands. That is why this guide works through the calculation before looking at the offers.
How to calculate a wagering requirement
The formula has two inputs: the base and the multiple. Total bets required = base × multiple, where the base is either the bonus alone or the deposit plus the bonus, depending on the terms. Three further rules then change how hard that total is to reach: the maximum bet, the share each game contributes, and the time allowed.
To check an offer yourself, take four figures from the bonus terms: the bonus you would receive on your deposit, whether the deposit is included in the base, the multiple, and the maximum bet. Multiply the base by the multiple, then divide the result by the maximum bet to see the minimum number of bets. The expected-loss line works the same way for any game: total bets × (1 − RTP). Our RTP guide explains what the return-to-player figure does and does not tell you.
The variables that change the cost
The multiple
The multiple is the number most offers advertise, and in our coverage it falls within a narrow band. The welcome bonuses we cover range from 30x to 50x, with a median of 40x. These figures compare multiples only; the bases differ, as the next section shows.
Some regulators now limit the multiple. Great Britain’s Gambling Commission capped wagering requirements at 10 times for its licensees from 19 January 2026, after finding that some licensees applied up to 60 times (Gambling Commission decision; announcement). That cap binds only Gambling Commission licensees.
A multiple can also be unclear on the casino’s own pages. Ozwin Casino’s FAQ and its general promotional terms give different multiples for the welcome offer, recorded as 30x / 35x (sources differ). Where pages disagree, the higher figure is the safer assumption until support confirms the other in writing.
The base: bonus only, or deposit plus bonus
The base matters as much as the multiple. Of the welcome bonuses we cover, 6 apply the multiple to the deposit plus the bonus (CrownPlay, Fair Go Casino, Ozwin Casino, Spinathlon, StoneVegas and VikingLuck) and 23 apply it to the bonus alone. On a 100% match, a deposit-plus-bonus base doubles the total bets compared with the same multiple on the bonus only. A lower multiple on the larger base can therefore ask for more betting than a higher multiple on the bonus alone.
Maximum bet while wagering
Of the 30 welcome bonuses we cover, 27 set a maximum stake while the bonus is active. Fair Go Casino’s limit is A$10 per bet, and RocketPlay’s is A$7.50, both in terms checked on . The limit fixes the minimum number of bets needed, and breaching it can void bonus winnings, as the pitfalls section shows.
Time limit
The clock can be short. Ricky Casino gives 3 days for each welcome step, RocketPlay gives 5 days, and SkyCrown gives 14 days. Fair Go Casino states no wagering deadline for deposit bonuses in the terms we read, but it requires at least one withdrawal within 150 days of redeeming the coupon, or bonus winnings are forfeited. Unmet wagering at expiry usually removes the bonus and everything won with it.
Game contribution
Pokies count in full for 28 of the welcome bonuses we cover, with exceptions, while other games count much less or not at all. SkyCrown’s bonus terms set the rates out plainly:
SkyCrown: what each game type contributes
What the terms state: 100% Verified — operator's own pages
“28. For wagering purposes, slot bets count 100%. … 29. Live casino and table game bets count 10%. Bets on instant games, lotteries, video poker, and virtual sports do not count.”
Source: Bonus Terms and Conditions (Australian locale) (SkyCrown (Metlait SRL)), checked 15 October 2026.
A table-game bet at SkyCrown moves the wagering total only a fraction as far as the same stake on a pokie, and video poker does not move it at all. The headline pokies rate also has exceptions: the same terms exclude a long list of named slots from bonus play. Checking the excluded list before playing matters more than the headline rate.
Richard Casino and Stay Casino also list named pokies that count at a reduced rate, and Ricky Casino excludes jackpot slots and a list of titles from bonus play; the casino reviews quote each list.
Cash-out caps
Clearing the wagering does not always release everything won. Of the welcome bonuses we cover, 22 cap what can be cashed out from bonus play in some form, while the terms of DragonSlots, Fair Go Casino, HellSpin, Ozwin Casino and Woo Casino state no cap on their welcome bonus. RocketPlay caps winnings from its first-deposit bonus at A$5,000, SkyCrown caps its first-deposit bonus at A$5,000, and Richard Casino limits cash-bonus winnings to 10x the bonus received. Anything above the cap is removed at withdrawal.
What the casinos we cover require
The table applies each casino’s own terms to a deposit of 100 in the currency of its bonus, with no conversion. It shows the bonus that deposit would receive, the total bets required, and the average cost of those bets at an illustrative 96% RTP.

Three rows depend on the deposit size and are marked §. Bizzo Casino’s Australian offer page pays its top rate, 125%, only from A$500, so the table uses the 75% it pays at A$100 (Bizzo Casino first-deposit offer, as shown in Australia). Gambloria and Lucky Capone pay their top rate, 150%, from $150, so the table uses the 125% their cards give a $100 deposit (Gambloria first-deposit card, Australian locale; Lucky Capone first-deposit card, Australian locale).
Read the total-bets column before the bonus column: it, not the headline multiple, measures how much betting each offer demands.
The casinos marked ‡ in the table have a provider ACMA formally warned over their own service, or terms or a site that exclude players in Australia. Most of them belong to casinos whose providers the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has formally warned; among the casinos we review, ACMA’s records hold no such warning for Crowngreen, DragonSlots, Fair Go Casino, Gambloria, Goldex, Jet4Bet, Lucky Capone, Ozwin Casino, Slota Casino, Spinathlon, Spinline, StoneVegas, VikingLuck and WinSpirit, and two of those, Fair Go Casino and Ozwin Casino, are on its 2021 list of services found in contravention (ACMA investigations page). Spinline and Slota Casino are not marked: no warning names either, and ACMA’s warnings to companies both sites name concern other services. The online casinos comparison gives each warning’s date and recipient. Crowngreen, CrownPlay, Gambloria, Lucky Capone, Neon54, Spinathlon, StoneVegas, VikingLuck and WinSpirit are closed to Australians: the terms of WinSpirit, Gambloria and Crowngreen themselves exclude Australia (WinSpirit terms; Gambloria terms, clause 4.5; Crowngreen Terms of Services, clause 5.2), although Crowngreen’s site still served Australian connections, and the other six sites refuse Australian connections (CrownPlay, as shown in Australia; Lucky Capone, as shown in Australia; Neon54, as shown in Australia; StoneVegas, as shown in Australia; Spinathlon, as shown in Australia; VikingLuck, as shown in Australia). For that reason CrownPlay’s and Neon54’s rows come from archived pages, and Neon54’s archive kept no wagering figures for its welcome package; the rows of StoneVegas, VikingLuck and Spinathlon come from pages our crawler read outside Australia, and Spinathlon’s offer terms open only after sign-in, so its row has no multiple. Their reviews set out the detail. ACMA’s list of gambling websites it has asked Australian internet providers to block is not limited to these casinos: at our check it held the official domains of 16 of the 30 casinos we cover (ACMA blocked-websites list). The licence transparency study compares that list with the licence records of the first ten casinos we reviewed.
Two documented examples show the effect of the base at the same A$100 deposit. Fair Go Casino applies its multiple to the deposit plus the bonus; RocketPlay applies its multiple to the bonus only.
Deposit plus bonus: Fair Go Casino
Fair Go Casino’s terms apply 30x to the sum of the deposit plus the bonus for deposit bonus coupons, and the requirement applies again to each of the 5 welcome deposits. The deposit itself is locked into the playthrough, so none of it can be withdrawn while the bonus is active.
Bonus only: RocketPlay
RocketPlay applies 40x / 30x (sources differ) to the bonus only, against Fair Go Casino’s 30x on the deposit plus the bonus. Compare the two totals above: the base can outweigh a difference in the multiple. RocketPlay’s time limit and its cap on winnings from the first-deposit bonus are the trade-offs to weigh against that.
No-wagering and cashable bonuses
None of the welcome bonuses whose terms we could read is wagering-free; the lowest multiple recorded is 30x. A true no-wagering bonus pays any winnings as withdrawable cash straight away, so its cost to the casino is controlled by the bonus size and any cash-out cap instead. Our research so far records welcome offers only, so we cannot confirm current no-deposit or no-wagering free-spin offers at these casinos. Several bonus terms do set standing rules for no-deposit bonuses, such as a fully verified account before withdrawal, which our casino KYC guide quotes.
“Cashable” does not mean no wagering. In the terms we read, it means the bonus carries no cap on what can be cashed out once wagering is met:
Fair Go Casino: what "cashable" means
What the terms state: No Verified — operator's own pages
“11. All deposit bonuses are cashable at Fair Go! Free no deposit bonuses hold a maximum cash out limit which is 5x the bonus amount unless otherwise specified.”
Source: General Terms of Fair Go Casino (incl. Promotional, Tournament, Lobby Jackpot and Refer-and-Earn terms) (Fair Go Casino), checked 15 October 2026.
Fair Go Casino’s deposit bonuses are cashable but still carry 30x wagering on the deposit plus the bonus. The same clause caps free no-deposit bonuses, so a “cashable no-deposit bonus” in the everyday sense does not appear in these terms. Ozwin Casino’s terms use the same “cashable” wording for its deposit bonuses.
The opposite is a non-cashable or “sticky” bonus: the bonus amount itself is removed at withdrawal, and only winnings above it can be cashed out. Whether an offer is cashable changes what a player keeps, not how much must be bet.
Pitfalls documented in the terms
Each clause below is quoted from a casino we cover, and each can cost a player bonus winnings or money.
A single bet over the limit can void the winnings
What the terms state: A$10 Verified — operator's own pages
“$10 is the maximum bet unless specifically stated otherwise. Betting above $10 during a bonus playthrough will result in any promotion winnings voided.”
Source: General Terms of Fair Go Casino (incl. Promotional, Tournament, Lobby Jackpot and Refer-and-Earn terms) (Fair Go Casino), checked 15 October 2026.
The penalty applies to the whole promotion, not just the oversized bet. Fair Go Casino applies the limit to any bonus playthrough, including cashback. Raising the stake after a win, or buying a bonus feature, can breach it.
Feature buys count towards the maximum bet
What the terms state: A$8 Verified — operator's own pages
“1e. While you have active bonus, maximum bet for all game types (slots, live games, table games, scratch, action games) is 5 EUR / 5 USD / 50 NOK / 8 CAD / 8 AUD / 8 NZD (Unless stated otherwise in special terms for the bonus). Purchasing any game features (including but not limited to respins) will add to your bet amount.”
Source: Bonus terms (Woo Casino (Novatrix SRL)), checked 15 October 2026.
Woo Casino counts purchased game features as part of the bet, so a bonus buy priced at many times the base stake can exceed the limit even when the spin stake does not. The clause also covers every game type, not only pokies.
A base that the terms do not spell out
What the terms state: Bonus Verified — operator's own pages
“1k. All deposit bonuses must be wagered x40.”
Source: Bonus terms (Woo Casino (Novatrix SRL)), checked 15 October 2026.
The clause applies the multiple to “deposit bonuses” without saying whether the deposit is included. We read it as a bonus-only base, but a player who assumes the larger base will at least not be surprised. Asking support for the figure in writing before depositing removes the doubt.
Currency is a quieter trap. Ricky Casino publishes its maximum bet as €5 “or equivalent in your local currency”, with no Australian-dollar figure, so a player in AUD has to work out the limit, and the exchange rate the casino uses is not stated.
Deposit wagering is a separate rule
Some casinos require a deposit to be wagered before withdrawal even when no bonus is taken. This is an anti-money-laundering rule in the terms, not a bonus condition, and declining a bonus does not remove it. Among the casinos we cover, 11 require each deposit to be wagered once and 18 require it three times.
| Casino | Deposit wagering before withdrawal | Penalty if deposit not wagered |
|---|---|---|
| Bizzo Casino | 3x | The casino may charge the transaction processing costs for deposits and withdrawals if less than three times the last deposit has been wagered, at its sole discretion; security may refuse a withdrawal when deposits or withdrawals do not match the bets placed (bets at odds of at least 1.1). |

| Golden Crown Casino | 3x | The casino may charge a processing fee or refuse the withdrawal if a deposit has not been wagered three times. The fee amount is not stated. |
| Goldex | 1x | Funds from a deposit cannot be withdrawn until it has been wagered; on suspicion of money laundering or fraud the casino can require the deposit to be wagered at least three times. |
| HellSpin | 3x | The casino may charge the transaction-processing costs of the deposit and the withdrawal, at its sole discretion; the amount is not stated. |
| Jet4Bet | 1x | Funds from a deposit cannot be withdrawn until it has been wagered; on suspicion of money laundering or fraud the casino can require the deposit to be wagered at least three times. |
| Lucky Capone | 3x | A withdrawal is not available until active deposits have been played through at least three times; no fee for withdrawing an unwagered deposit is stated. |
| Lucky Ones | 3x | The casino may refuse a withdrawal that contains unwagered deposit funds or charge a processing fee. |
| Neon54 | 1x | If less than the deposit has been wagered, the casino may cancel all winnings and keep a 10% commission (at least 0.75 AUD), or 15% where the deposit was made by bank card or bank transfer. |
| Neospin | 3x | The casino may charge an unquantified processing fee or refuse the withdrawal. |
| Ozwin Casino | 1x | 15% administrative fee deducted from the withdrawal |
| Richard Casino | 1x | Funds linked to the deposit cannot be withdrawn until the deposit has been wagered. |
| Ricky Casino | 3x | The casino may charge a processing fee or refuse the withdrawal; the fee amount is not stated. |
| RocketPlay | 1x | Payments are cancelled until the deposit is wagered, and the casino may charge a processing fee of an unstated amount at its sole decision. |
| RollXO | 1x | Funds from a deposit cannot be withdrawn until it has been wagered; on suspicion of money laundering or fraud the casino can require the deposit to be wagered at least three times. |
| SkyCrown | 3x | The casino may charge a processing fee or refuse the withdrawal. |
| Slota Casino | 3x | If bets from the real balance are less than three times the deposit, the casino may withhold a commission of up to 10% of the withdrawal, or refuse the withdrawal with a 10% charge and ask the player to finish wagering. |
| Spinathlon | 3x | The casino may charge a fee, set at its sole discretion, for processing the deposits and withdrawals. |
| Spinline | 3x | If bets from the real balance are less than three times the deposit, the casino may withhold a commission of up to 10% of the withdrawal, or refuse the withdrawal with a 10% charge and ask the player to finish wagering. |
| SpinRise | 3x | The casino may charge an unquantified processing fee for deposits and withdrawals, at its discretion. |
| Stay Casino | 1x | Funds connected to a deposit cannot be withdrawn until that deposit has been wagered the required number of times. No fee is stated. |
| StoneVegas | 1x | The casino may cancel all winnings and keep a 10% commission (at least 0.75 AUD of the last deposit), or 15% if the account was funded by bank card or bank transfer. |
| VikingLuck | 1x | The casino may cancel all winnings and keep a 10% commission (at least 0.75 AUD of the last deposit), or 15% if the account was funded by bank card or bank transfer. |
| WinSpirit | 3x | The casino may refuse a withdrawal until the deposit has been wagered three times, and funds of players who deposit or withdraw without wagering are blocked until further notice. |
| Woo Casino | 3x | The casino may charge a processing fee or refuse the withdrawal; the fee amount is not stated. |
Ozwin Casino: a fee for withdrawing an unplayed deposit
What the terms state: 15% administrative fee deducted from the withdrawal Verified — operator's own pages
“4.3 Minimum Playthrough: To comply with anti‐money laundering regulations, you must wager each deposit at least once (1×) before requesting a withdrawal. If you fail to meet this requirement, an administrative fee of 15% will be deducted.”
Source: Ozwin Casino Terms and Conditions (incl. Promotional, Slot Tournament, Lobby Jackpot and Refer-a-Friend terms) (Ozwin Casino), checked 15 October 2026.
At Ozwin Casino, withdrawing a deposit that has not been wagered once costs a percentage of the withdrawal rather than being refused outright. A player who deposits and changes their mind pays the fee, with or without a bonus. Most other casinos in the table refuse the withdrawal instead, or reserve the right to charge a fee of an unstated amount. Spinline, Slota Casino, Neon54, StoneVegas and VikingLuck state a percentage commission, and Neon54, StoneVegas and VikingLuck can also cancel the winnings.
Our withdrawal policy study compares this rule with the other conditions that stand between a balance and a payout, and the guide to casino withdrawals explains how they add up.
FAQ
What does a 40x wagering requirement mean?
It means betting 40 times the base before the bonus can be withdrawn. With a bonus-only base, that is 40 times the bonus amount; with a deposit-plus-bonus base, it is 40 times the two combined, which is far more betting for the same offer. The casino’s terms say which base applies.
How do I calculate wagering requirements?
Multiply the base by the multiple. The base is the bonus, or the deposit plus the bonus, as the terms state. Then divide by the maximum bet for the minimum number of bets, and allow for games that count less than 100%. The worked example near the top of this page shows each step.
Can I withdraw my deposit before finishing the wagering?
Usually not without losing the bonus, and sometimes not at all. Where the base includes the deposit, the deposit is part of the locked balance. Separately, several casinos require each deposit to be wagered once or three times before any withdrawal, with or without a bonus, as the deposit-wagering table shows.
What happens if I bet more than the maximum bet?
The casino can void the bonus winnings. Fair Go Casino’s terms state that a bet above its limit during a bonus playthrough voids “any promotion winnings”, and other casinos we cover reserve similar rights. Feature buys and gamble options can count towards the stake.
Is there a way to beat wagering requirements?
No. Every eligible bet on a casino game carries a house edge, so more required betting means a larger expected loss on average. What a player can control is the choice of offer: a bonus-only base, a lower multiple, a realistic time limit and no cash-out cap reduce the cost. Declining the bonus avoids bonus wagering altogether. If wagering targets are driving play, the responsible gambling page lists tools and support services.
Are there casinos with no-wagering bonuses for Australians?
Not among the welcome bonuses we cover; the lowest multiple we recorded is 30x. We also checked the casinos’ promotion pages from an Australian connection on 7 October 2026 and read the offers of ten more casinos on 9 October 2026. The casino bonuses page will compare more offers as they are checked.

Counts updated after CrownPlay re-check
CrownPlay's welcome terms, read live from outside Australia on 15 October 2026, now cap what a bonus releases at 10 times the bonus, and its general terms give pokies a 100% weighting. Both had been unconfirmed, so CrownPlay now counts among the bonuses with a cash-out cap and among those where pokies count in full.
-
Winnings cap applies changed
Previously Not confirmed; now Yes.
-
Ten newly reviewed casinos added (Crowngreen, Crownslots, Gambloria, Lucky Capone, Neon54, Slota Casino, Spinathlon, Spinline, StoneVegas, VikingLuck)
Bonus and deposit-wagering tables and every count here now reflect the ten new welcome offers. The ‡ explanation now covers all nine casinos Australians cannot join, says which rows rest on archived or crawler-read pages, and explains why Spinline and its sister brand Slota Casino are not marked (‡ now means a warning about the casino's own service or an Australian exclusion); the deposit-banded offers of Bizzo Casino, Gambloria and Lucky Capone are now worked at the band an A$100 deposit falls in, where Bizzo Casino's row had used its top rate of 125% instead of 75%; the no-wagering statements are limited to offers whose terms we could read, because the multiples of Neon54 and Spinathlon are unknown, and commission-style penalties for unplayed deposits are now mentioned.
-
Five newly reviewed casinos added (Jet4Bet, Lucky Ones, Goldex, DragonSlots, SpinRise)
Jet4Bet, Lucky Ones, Goldex, DragonSlots and SpinRise were reviewed and published, so the wagering tables and worked comparisons now include their welcome-bonus multiples, bases and caps.
-
Casino links and offer cards added
Offer cards with links now appear across the site (see the affiliate disclosure). This page had said the casinos marked ‡ appeared only to show how their terms are written, not as options; it now explains ‡ as a regulator record or an Australian exclusion.
-
CrownPlay marked in the wagering table and the warning list completed
The note under the wagering table had called CrownPlay's row unmarked and cited five casinos' warnings. CrownPlay's row now carries ‡ after ACMA's 2025 warning to NovaForge Ltd, and the note adds the warnings about Neospin, Richard Casino, Ricky Casino, RocketPlay, SkyCrown and Woo Casino and the later Bizzo Casino and HellSpin warnings.
-
Five newly reviewed casinos added to the comparison
HellSpin, RollXO, Neospin, CrownPlay and Golden Crown were reviewed and published, so tables, counts and the casinos shown only with caveats now cover fifteen casinos instead of ten.
-
Stay Casino added to the casinos shown only to illustrate terms
ACMA's formal warning of 22 February 2022 names Hollycorn N.V. as the provider of the Stay Casino service. This page had named only Bizzo Casino and WinSpirit as casinos in the table that are not presented as options.
-
Wagering table rows for Woo Casino and Bizzo Casino corrected to Australian dollars
An Australian connection on 7 October 2026 was shown both casinos' welcome offers in Australian dollars, replacing the euro amounts in the wagering table. Bizzo Casino's percentage is banded by deposit, and a sentence under the table now gives the band the row uses.
